Blue-grey, clump-forming perennial of shingle beaches; locally common on most suitable coasts. Leaves pinnately divided, clasping upper ones having shallow, toothed lobes. Flowers 60­90mm across; June­September. Seed pods long and curved Up to 90 cm tall. A branching, clump-forming biennial or perennial. Leaves are blue-green, the basal ones being deeply pinnately lobed and arranged in a rosette. Flowers are 60-80 mm across and comprise of two sepals and four bright yellow papery petals.The seed capsule is up to 30 cm long, slender and curved.
