Widespread and common perennial among tall grass grassy places , occasional, bracken etc.and roadsides. Best known for its upright spikes of yellow, 5-petalled flowers that appear June to August. Leaves comprise 3 to 6 pairs of oval, toothed leaflets with smaller leaflets between.Other features: Petals 5, stamens 10-20. Glands on stems and leaf underside few or none, much less plentiful than non-glandular hairs. The hooked spines on the fruits attach to animal fur to aid dispersal. Height up to 50cm
