Roman Snail (Helix potata ).

 

The Roman Snail has a shell is mostly spherical with an obvious spire, no umbilicus is evident o Shell colour is cream coloured or very light brown with faint wide bands, they are usually more than 35mm wide. Roman snails ( sometimes called edible snails) are larger than any other snails found in the wild. This species is most likely confined top chalky areas in S England. This species species has recently been given legal protection in UK to prevent its over-collection for food.
